A fastball thrown by Blake Snell at 97 miles per hour struck Bryce Harper in the thumb during the fourth inning in San Diego. As soon as it happened, he crashed to the ground, grasping his left hand and groaning in agony. Harper, who was clearly irritated, said something to Snell, who apologized and stated it wasn’t intentional on his part. Harper yelled back at Snell that he understood that it was not done on purpose.

In the following days, he will undergo more testing in order to identify the best course of action for his recuperation and whether or not he will need surgery.

Harper is as irreplaceable as any other player in the major leagues

The Phillies already got a taste of it earlier this week when they scored a total of five runs in three games when he was out with a blister. Harper has once again been one of the finest hitters in baseball. He entered Saturday’s game with a batting line of.320/.385/.602, including 21 doubles, 15 home runs, and 48 RBI, despite having missed nine games. Since the All-Star break of the previous season, he leads the major leagues in extra-base hits with six more than anybody else.

Kyle Schwarber, who was commenting on the game’s postgame broadcast, said, “It’s difficult, the year he’s having, the guy he is.” “We are going to have to go through this challenge despite the fact that it is a difficult blow. This baseball team should be able to weather the storm despite the fact that it will undoubtedly be challenging. We have a lot of talented players, and each one of us has to take the lead in our own way. We can’t overextend ourselves; we need to simply be who we are, but when other people’s numbers are called, we have to ring the bell.”

Challenging year for Phillies

Another year was challenging but fruitful for the current MVP of the league. Due to a minor rupture in his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), he has been sidelined since the second week of the season and is unable to toss or play the field. He was scheduled to get another opinion on the elbow the following week. A blister that was on his hand grew infected earlier in the week, causing him to lose time from work.

In light of Harper’s injury, the outcome of Saturday’s game, in which the Phillies prevailed 4-2 against the Nationals, was virtually an afterthought. The Phillies will need improved performances from a number of their batters, most notably Nick Castellanos, who has not lived up to the potential he showed at the beginning of the season. They are also missing Jean Segura, who will be sidelined until the beginning of September after fracturing his finger while attempting to bunt.

The Phillies might have their eyes set on an outfielder or designated hitter with the trade deadline approaching in a little more than five weeks. In the meanwhile, Mickey Moniak is making progress toward a return to the major leagues.
