Rabies affects all systems of the human body, and even affects breathing and walking. Rabies infection occurs when a person is exposed to a bite or even a scratch from an animal carrying the hydrophobia virus. Fortunately, a few people are infected with the virus.  Rabies are people who live in wildlife, but if a person is bitten by an animal infected with hydrophobia, then receiving prompt medical care is considered protection from the risks and complications of that disease.

Animal bites:

Hydrophobia is a very dangerous disease that causes brain swelling and enlargement, which may lead to death. Therefore, it is necessary when you are bitten by an animal. You must hurry to consult a doctor and receive the necessary care, especially when exposed to a bite from a wild animal such as a bat. However, all mammals can contract rabies, including domestic animals such as cats and dogs, so when one of these animals is kept at home, the animals must be vaccinated with an anti-rabies vaccine. As for non-mammals such as birds, fish and snakes, they cannot contract rabies. The reason for the presence of this foam is that the rabies causes injury to the nervous system in the animal and makes it unable to swallow its saliva.

What should be done when exposed to an animal bite?

  •  Wash the wound with soap and water for 10 continuous minutes.
  • Call or go to the emergency department in the hospital.
  • Describe the animal that bit you so that it can be tested for rabies virus.

When you go to the doctor for examination, he will ask you some questions, such as:

  •  What kind of animal bit you?
  •  What does that animal look like?  Because the rabid animal usually behaves strangely.
  • How are you feeling now ?

When you are bitten by an animal infected with hydrophobia, symptoms do not appear immediately on you, because there is an incubation period for the disease, which is the period between infection until symptoms appear.

And this incubation period may be a few days or may reach weeks or even more, but usually the doctor does not wait until symptoms appear, but rather begins to give the patient doses of the hydrophobia vaccination to prevent the disease, and in the United States of America about 40 thousand people take the hydrophobia vaccine for protection.

Protection from rabies

You can protect yourself from hydrophobia by avoiding  getting close to wild animals and do not touch or feed them. That your domestic animals get their vaccinations and thus avoid hydrophobia. Get rid of rubbish outside the house so as not to attract wild animals like raccoons to it.
