Will Sonbuchner’s introduction

Will Sonbuchner, better known by his nickname Sonny, is at the center of Sonny Side Films. Minnesota, in the United States, is where he was born and reared. Film, movies, and a wide variety of other types of media have fascinated him ever since he was a small child. Sonny began his education in audio production when he was 20 years old, and he began his career in the broadcasting industry as a DJ not long after that. Sonny pursued his interest in filmmaking after coming to Korea and has since created a number of music videos, short films, and web series. He is now living and working in Seoul Education- as a professional cameraman and editor.

Education

Will Sonbuchner graduated from the Sauk Rapids-Rice High School in Minnesota, where he received his education. Despite the fact that his siblings had advanced degrees, he had little interest in furthering his education. Will did not succeed academically everywhere he went, therefore he was unable to complete his degree requirements. When he was in high school, his classmates began to call him Sonny. Will Sonbuchner began his filmmaking career after gaining experience in video production when he was still in high school. At about the same time, DSLR cameras began to become widely available.

In 2008, when he was just 24 years old, he submitted an application for a position at a major radio station but was ultimately unsuccessful. After that, he gave up on pursuing a career in radio because he believed that, due to the rising popularity of podcasts, radio would not have a prosperous future. Will Sonbuchner had been employed at Applebee’s International, Inc. at the time, in the position of waiter, but he was let go from that position. During that period, he was employed in a number of different jobs, including working for a moving company, in restaurants, and in a number of other positions that were not leading anywhere.

He used to watch the television series Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations when he was working as a caretaker at night in an assisted-living home in St. Cloud. These shows were essential in Will’s decision to go to Asia. During that time, he was especially motivated by Andrew Zimmern’s trip to Taiwan, during which he sampled a variety of cuisine that was foreign to him.

Will Sonbuchner owes a lot to Andrew for getting him interested in Asia and inspiring him to break out of his routine and embark on an adventure in Asia. At the age of 24, he had the desire to see the world before he started focusing on his professional life.

Will Sonbuchner traveled to South Korea when he was 24 years old and had $2,000 in his bank account. Prior to making the journey, he had sold everything he had and terminated his lease. In South Korea, he was able to find a place to reside because of the connections he had made there. In the beginning, Will was able to find a part-time position as an English tutor; however, this position did not pay well since it required him to travel for a significant amount of time in order to teach for a short period of time. As a result, he was able to get a position as a full-time educator at a kindergarten, where he was employed for a considerable number of years. In addition to this, he worked in a variety of different capacities, including as an educator. Will had a teaching blog that he maintained at that time period.

South Korea to Japan

To and fro from South Korea to Japan Given that Will Sonbuchner was in South Korea on a tourist visa that was only valid for ninety days, he was required to leave the country once every ninety days in order to travel to Tsushima Island in Japan, where he would get his passport stamped before heading back to South Korea. He spent the same amount of time living there as well, eight years. Will also visited the Philippines and Taiwan during his travels.

Videography

Will Sonbuchner’s interest in videography was renewed when he was in South Korea, and he went from being a total newcomer to the field to being an experienced cameraman and director. Filmmaking was one of his areas of study, and he even created a workshop for independent filmmakers as well as a few YouTube lessons. Will began experimenting with the most recent methods in filmmaking and also began producing music videos.

In 2012, he worked for Giant Company in Seoul as an Executive Producer for the company. Will began his career by securing lesser assignments, but as time went on, he worked his way up to larger ones. After a period of time, he began working for Red Bull Korea and also assisted with the production of many K-pop music videos.

Journey towards youtube

Will Sonbuchner wanted to generate his own material after working on various different projects, so he started working on YouTube. Therefore, he began making movies and uploading them to his own channel on YouTube. Although Will established his channel on YouTube with the moniker Best Ever Food Review Show on September 23, 2010, he did not begin uploading videos to the channel until 2015.

Initially, he was conflicted between two content concepts, one of which was the year of dread (performing terrifying stunts), and the other was the greatest-ever food review program (reviewing food). However, when his food review videos garnered greater attention, he continued to focus on that kind of content.

Vietnam

Will Sonbuchner traveled to Vietnam in 2015 for a vacation of one week, but while he was there, a tour company approached him with the opportunity to work with them on the production of films. In addition, the firm gave him a wage and the services of a cameraperson. He took them up on their offer and relocated to Vietnam in 2015, where he has been residing since. Will Sonbuchner has, from the very beginning of his YouTube channel, relied on the assistance of other individuals, namely camerapersons, in order to record his videos. Eventually, he went so far as to engage a whole staff to assist him with his YouTube channels.

Culinary films experience

Producing culinary films required him to go to many different nations, including Nigeria, Namibia, Myanmar, Cuba, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Oman, the United States of America, Kenya, India, Madagascar, Japan, China, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

Will Sonbuchner collaborated with Travel Channel on the production of a pilot episode of a culinary program with the working title “Crazy Delicious.” However, just as the program was about to go into production, the Travel Channel was purchased by Discovery, and as a result of the new leadership, his project was canceled. Will, on the other hand, was given the chance to learn content creation for travel and gastronomy from very talented specialists, which turned out to be a silver lining. In addition to that, he was able to engage in conversation with skilled cameramen and producers, watch them in their work, and pick their brains about their workflow and equipment. Will eventually became a popular YouTuber thanks to the information he gained from all of these sources.

Will’s battle with his weight started at an early age, and he eventually lost a significant amount of weight.

While he was employed at a job that he detested, he had a habit of staying late, during which time he would overeat to keep himself from falling asleep, and lived a life that was out of balance. Will’s heaviest weight was a staggering 300 pounds when he was younger.

Later on, he began decreasing his extra weight by weightlifting, and he also skips meals and works out every night. This is how he stays on track. Will Sonbuchner keeps a bathroom scale with him at all times, even when he is traveling, in order to keep track of his weight.  He also measures himself every day, since he is aware that only what can be measured can be controlled.

Personal life of Will

Will Sonbuchner hasn’t shared much information about his personal life, other than the fact that his wife is Vietnamese. Because he sweats so much, you’ll notice in all of his videos that he’s constantly sporting a bandana. Will Sonbuchner’s all-time favorite meal is grilled cheese, yet the vegetable he detests the most is cucumber.
