Feist said in the essay that the most recent accusations against Arcade Fire front man Win Butler, made by four different people, eventually led her to decide to leave the gig.

Feist argued that continuing the tour would seem she was either defending or disregarding Win’s harm. While cancelling it would suggest she was acting as both the jury and the judge. “I never came here to support or stand with Arcade Fire. I came here to assert myself on a stage where I’ve come to feel like I belong and have earned the right to call my own.”
