ASAP Rocky was detained on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon after getting off a private jet at LAX on Wednesday morning. He is accused of shooting at a person in Hollywood in November, according to Los Angeles police. On his way back from Barbados, where he was vacationing with his girlfriend, singer Rihanna, who is expecting their first child, the artist landed at Los Angeles International Airport. According to LAPD Capt. Jonathan Tippet, Rocky, whose true name is Rakim Mayers, was apprehended and jailed on suspicion of assault by the Robbery-Homicide Division.

ASAP Rocky facing a strict investigation

Following the arrest, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department investigated the rapper’s house for any evidence. Detectives have been tracking the artist’s return from Barbados for some time, according to law enforcement sources.

An altercation between two friends happened between Selma and Argyle avenues in the Hollywood neighborhood at about 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021, according to the assault charges. According to local authorities, the altercation escalated to the point that one party fired a revolver at the other. A slight injury was received by the victim, who sought medical help afterward.

The suspect, Mayers and two other individuals left the scene on foot after the shooting, according to authorities. Mayers, 33, was convicted of assault in Sweden in the summer of 2019 while performing at a festival there. Aggravated assault charges were filed against him and two members of his entourage.

He was found guilty in August 2019 after a court heard testimony concerning a street battle in Stockholm in late June in which the rapper was accused of stomping on a guy after tossing him to the ground.

ASAP Rocky thanks his fans — and the Swedish court that helped him get out of jail — now that he’s no longer in prison. Mayers claimed that he was acting in self-defense throughout his testimony. The court ruled that the event was not serious enough to warrant incarceration. The rapper’s representatives did not reply to a request for comment from The New York Times on Wednesday.
