In this week’s collection of editorial cartoons, Santa Claus is extremely busy: he is fielding complaints about climate change (drawn by Drew Sheneman), he is fielding complaints about school lunches (drawn by Scott Stantis), he is dragging former President Trump into the Department of Justice (drawn by Scott Stantis), he is fielding complaints about climate change (drawn by Drew Sheneman), and he is waiting out the arctic cold snap in Joe’s (Michael Ramirez). Kevin McCarthy, who has agreed to draw the sleigh for Republican party reindeer (Mike Luckovich), and Ted Cruz, who is evading the chilly weather in Texas by heading to Cancun once again, are both pretending to be Santa Claus (Nick Anderson).
Christmas depiction of Jesus and Mary
A religious motif is conjured up by Bill Bramhall, who depicts Jesus and Mary being turned away from a shelter for the poor in New York City. Joey Weatherford makes a reference to the story of Jesus’ birth as told in the Gospel of Luke.
In their accounts of Zelenskyy’s trip to the White House and Congress, David Horsey and Ramirez hear echoes of Winston Churchill’s visit to Washington during the war. These echoes are picked up by both authors.
Cartoonists have also pointed out the attack on the US on January 6, which pointed the finger at former President Donald Trump; Trump’s marketing of NFT trading cards depicting himself as a superhero, among other poses; congressional passage of a $1.7 trillion spending bill to avoid a government shutdown; and Elon Musk’s Twitter troubles.
