Cormac McCarthy, a US author and Pulitzer Prize winner, has received tributes upon his passing at his lifespan of 89.

Booker-Prize-winner McCarthy’s friend John Banville says on radio station BBC 4’s Today show that his death caused a “great loss” as well as that he’d been a “giant figure.” “He was one-of-a-kind,” Banville adds. “He stood out – he protruded like a monolith from the literary landscape.”

Bleak tale
