Denver Nuggets Impressive Victory over Grizzlies Granting Top Spot
In the Denver Nuggets ‘ 113-97 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, Nikola Jokic recorded another triple-double by scoring 18 points, grabbing 18 boards, and dishing out 10 assists. When Jokic achieves a triple-double, the Nuggets are now 25-0 for the year.
Denver Nuggets’ impressive victory over the Grizzlies may have just guaranteed them the top spot in the Western Conference.
Jokic’s skill in the game, however, was not the night’s main plot for once. It is more likely that the Nuggets will secure the top seed in the Western Conference despite their being five weeks leaving in the regular season. Moreover, Jokic added, “I don’t worry [about getting even for Denver’s loss to Memphis last month]. “Winning was crucial, especially since it was at home and in front of the best crowd. We had to carry out that.”
In the battle for the top spot, the Nuggets now lead the Grizzlies by a six-game margin.
Furthermore, this victory gave them the advantage in the tiebreaker between the two teams, effectively giving them a seven-game advantage. With only 18 games left for the Nuggets and 20 games left for the Grizzlies. It would be challenging to overcome that deficit at any point in the season.
Even if the Grizzlies started to play well, which may be feasible given their remaining schedule. They would still need the 45-19 Nuggets to lose their way. And it seems incredibly unlikely given the way Jokic is currently playing. Denver has only had three losing streaks all season: a two-game skid in November. A three-game streak in December, and a two-game streak in January. They also have a manageable remaining schedule. There may be doubts about their ability to succeed in the postseason. But it is already obvious that this club is geared towards dominating the regular season.
Regarding the postseason, it’s still too early to predict almost anything about the West’s seeding, excluding the Nuggets’ likelihood of receiving the top seed.
The top four seeds are separate from the top eight seeds by three games. While the top thirteen seeds are separate by an additional 1.5 games. Teams like the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns will be unorthodox “low seeds.” Which will add another wrinkle due to injuries and mid-season transactions. The Nuggets have the best chance to win a championship in a long time, despite any obstacles they may encounter.
