Characters ‘Leni’ and ‘Gina’ Explained

As the series “Echoes” focuses heavily on the twin sisters’ youth, it is revealed that Leni was born first, followed by Gina shortly after. Perhaps in the same way that the oldest of twin siblings frequently makes a big deal out of the fact that they were born first, Leni takes precedence over her sister’s opinions and actions as they grow up.

Despite having pleasant recollections of loving nurture with their mother, the two daughters could not enjoy her presence for long as she died from her incurable disease. They began to enjoy confusing others with their identical appearances very early on. Only their mother could tell the difference between Leni and Gina, and the girls soon find it amusing to respond to Claudia or Victor’s calls when either of them was requested.

Gradually, as they grew older, this innocuous enjoyment gave way to a more mature knowledge that they could get away with their behaviors by confounding people with their identities. The narrative of “Echoes” establishes that it was always Leni who want to play this game of double identity, and it was always she who urge her sister to join it.

When the girls first met the local horse handler, Jack, they were all at the age of physical attraction. Also adolescent relationships, and Gina was the one who approached him first.  Gina may have drawn Jack because of her elegance, like that of a dove. This is as described by their mother, and the two began their romance. However, until now, Gina and Leni had shared everything in their lives, to the point that their existence was never as individuals but always as a couple.

What Caused the Sisters to Switch Roles?

Although the twin sisters’ practice of trading lives with each other developing to be something casual. Also even enjoyable to them, the root of the activity itself had a dark and even sorrowful implication. Victor was having actually murder his own wife. In order to relieve her of the tremendous anguish she was in, and the couple was planning the entire event. They had sensibly not told their children anything. As the three girls were still too little to understand what was going on.

However, on the night Victor drowned his wife in their bathtub, tiny Leni awoke from her sleep. Also heard noises emanating from their bathroom. When she was going over to investigate. She was scaring because she was thinking she see their father murder their mother. Leni did not inform Gina, and Victor mistook Gina for the one who had seen him.

Although he never said anything about it, his actions suggested that he disliked Gina. Much later, near the end of “Echoes,” Gina describes how Victor’s misidentification turned her become “Bad Gina”.
