The Pro Football Hall of Fame revealed on Wednesday that former Pittsburgh Steelers superstar Franco Harris, who is likely best remembered for one of the most famous plays in NFL history, famous as the “Immaculate Reception,” passed away at the age of 72.

Hall of Fame Director Jim Porter remarked, “We have lost a tremendous football player, an amazing representative to the Hall, and, most significantly, we have lost a member of the best individuals anyone will ever meet.

“History-makers all across the world and the Hall of Fame will tell Franco’s football narrative forever. However, a complete account of his life would be incomplete without mentioning his achievements off the field.

Harris passed away just a few days before the “Immaculate Reception.” a touchdown catch that helped the Steelers defeat the Oakland Raiders 13-7 in the 1972 AFC Divisional Round, marking the 50th anniversary of Pittsburgh’s first-ever playoff game.

Following the reception’s selection as the best play in NFL history in 2020 during the league’s 100th anniversary season, Harris reflected, “That play really typifies our teams of the ’70s.”

When the Steelers played the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. They were going to retire Harris’ number 32 jersey at halftime.

In his professional career, Franco Harris won four Super Bowl titles. In Super Bowl IX, he was name MVP after carrying for 158 yards against by the Minnesota Vikings. This is to lead the Steelers to their first-ever league triumph.

Backing up After 13 seasons, Harris retired, playing 12 for the Pittsburgh Steelers and 1 for the Seattle Seahawks. The nine-time Pro Bowler amassed 12,120 running yards and 91 touchdowns over his career by rushing. This is for at least 1,000 yards in each of his final eight seasons.
