GRAMMYS AND KPOP

Grammys and Kpop don’t have a long history. BTS became the first Kpop group to be nominating for a Grammy in 2021. Following that, they were again nominating the next two years. The category that they were in nominations for the category “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance”. Like many big award shows, the Grammys have had their share of controversies. People criticizes how nominations are going, saying there isn’t enough diversity among nominees and winners, and arguing over what different award categories mean.

However, the group didn’t receive any awards from any of the nominations. This sparking a flame of fury among the fans labelling the awards as rigging. Morever, fans conclude that the awards show was only using BTS as clout for clicks and views. They never intended to give BTS the award.

Once more, it’s that season, folks. They submitted their work for categories such as Best New Artist, Best Music Video, Song of the Year, and the Pop/Duo Group Performance, which previously featured BTS. 

This also involves BTS, who individually submitted entries while the members fulfill their military service in South Korea. As a result, the Recording Academy overlooked hits like Jimin’s “Like Craz,” the first track by a K-pop solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, and Jung Kook’s “Seven” featuring Latto, which also gained widespread radio and streaming attention over the summer. Other notable exclusions are Jin’s solo track with Coldplay, “The Astronaut,” j-hope’s collaboration with J. Cole, RM and SUGA’s solid albums, and V’s jazzy lo-fi pop project.

GRAMMY NOMINATIONS 2024 KPOP EXCLUSION

Despite being one of the most successful genres globally, Grammy nominations 2024 Kpop seemed to be overlooked. During the nomination period from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 15, 2023, none of the solo projects released in that timeline from Kpop artists got acknowledged. BTS currently shares the third-highest number of nominations in the history of the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category with several other prominent artists. The K-pop sensation has received nods for the past three years but missed out on the 2024 ceremony. Their journey began at the 2021 ceremony with their hit “Dynamite,” followed by “Butter” in 2022 and “My Universe” featuring Coldplay in 2023. Among actual groups and duos in this category, BTS trails behind two other acts in terms of the most nominations. Coldplay leads the pack with five nods, including their collaboration with BTS, while Maroon 5 comes in second with four chances to win.

Disappointments:

This disappointment is further compounded by the fact that BTS has previously winning awards at two other major American music ceremonies. Namely the Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Awards. Their absence from the Grammy nominations feels especially disheartening in comparison. This created a feeling of utter disappointment among the fans due to the Grammy nominations 2024 Kpop exclusion, At the same time, the quoted as “not even surprised” at the Grammys for doing such a shady job.

So, in short in Grammy nominations 2024 Kpop was completely overlooking despite its popularity. It further proved that the western awards shows seem to not acknowledge the Kpop artists. Furthermore, if it ever does nominate any other Kpop groups for an award, it’s all for clout. There is no way that they’ll be handing out one of the most prestigious music awards to artists that don’t belong to that community.

If the Grammys keep ignoring this genre in the main categories, maybe they should think about adding new, more specific categories to acknowledge its influence. However, the fans are utterly disappointing with no Grammy nominations 2024 Kpop to be into it and not working on focusing on Grammys. They would rather focus on other aspects of success of their favorite idols rather than Grammys. Such as the impact of music on peoples’ lives. Or recognition of their work all over the world. A gold ornament or plague is not needed to get their favorite groups to be recognizing. Their work and it’s impact is more than enough. That is all there is to know.
