Harrison Ford Breaks Down While Speaking About ‘Indiana Jones’ Film

Harrison Ford choked up on Saturday while discussing the fifth “Indiana Jones” film, which will be the 80-year-old actor’s final role as the whip-cracking archaeologist.

“Thank you for making these films such a great experience for all of us, and for providing us the opportunity to make these films for you,” an emotional Ford said in a surprise visit at Disney’s D23 expo in Anaheim, California.

The crowd applauded as he paused for a moment to recover himself.

“I’m extremely delighting to announce that this one is amazing,” he adds, adding that his co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was on stage with him, was “one of the reasons.” “‘Indiana Jones’ films are about imagination and mystery, but they’re also about heart,” he says, briefly choking up. “We have a truly human story to convey, as well as a film that will knock your socks off.”

At the end of his address, he joked that it would be his final time in the position. “This is it!” he joked with the audience. “I will never fall for you again.”

“However, thank you so much,” he added.

Ford suffered a shoulder injury while rehearsing a fight sequence for the film last year, but he returned to the set a few months later to finish production.

The actor previously injured his back while filming “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” in 1984. 

The actor, who enjoys performing his own stunts, also broke his leg during the filming of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015 and has wounded himself off-screen in two plane crashes while piloting the aircraft.

Waller-Bridge, 37, said that “keeping up” with Ford on was “exhausting.”

The film marks the first time the famed archaeologist has returned to theatres since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008. 

Ford first wore his famed hat in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which was subsequent to “Temple of Doom” and 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” in which Playing the role of James Bond, Sean Connery his father. The latest instalment, due out next June, does not yet have an official title.

For the first time this cycle, Steven Spielberg walked away from the “Indiana Jones” director’s chair, leaving James Mangold (Ford vs. Ferrari) to take over. Spielberg serves as a producer, and John Williams returns to provide the score. While nothing is famous about the plot of the film, the D23 audience was giving an exclusive look at a teaser trailer.

It shows Jones still teaching, travelling through a desert hamlet, and riding a horse through New York City.  Scenes from previous films are seeing, as is actor Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) dressed as Jones’ iconic opponent, the Nazi.
