Hasim Rahman Jr.’s Weight Canceled Jake Paul’s Fight
Jake Paul’s fight was canceled due to Hasim Rahman Jr being overweight
A boxing pay-per-view scheduled for August 6 headlined by Jake Paul and Hasim Rahman Jr. has been canceled due to Rahman’s weight issue. This statement is by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) Saturday night.

The event was to take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
According to MVP’s statement, Rahman’s camp told Paul’s team on Saturday morning that Rahman plans to weigh in this coming Friday at 215 pounds. Rahman originally signed to fight at 200lbs and the statement said Paul was willing to compromise to fight at 205lbs. The MVP statement said Rahman’s camp had said his fighter would pull out of the fight unless the fight was in the 215lb weight class.
MVP is left with no choice but to cancel the tournament on August 6th Aug:
“MVP and Jake Paul will not reward someone who behaved in such a deceptive and calculating manner,” the statement said. “Therefore, MVP is left with no choice but to cancel the tournament on August 6th. This forced exodus affects Jake Paul and Amanda Serrano. It also affected the other fighters who have been training relentlessly over the past few months for this event. The boxing community should hold Hasim Rahman Jr responsible for his unprofessionalism.”
Rahman’s spokesman declined to comment when contacted by ESPN on Saturday night.
Serrano, one of the best female fighters in the world, was scheduled to take on Brenda Carabajal in the co-main event of the card.
The Pol-Rahman fight was set up in early July. It was when Tommy Fury pulled out of a fight with Paul due to travel issues.
According to the MVP statement, Rahman signed an agreement on July 6 for a 200-pound fight. At the time, Rahman presented proof of his weight to the MVP and the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) that he would not lose more than 10% of his weight between this and the fight. Rahman, a heavyweight, last fought at 224 pounds in April and weighed in at 269 pounds as a pro.
Rahman and his father Hasim expressed confidence that gaining weight would not be difficult:
On July 7, according to MVP, Rahman weighed in at 216 pounds. He and his team have assured him that he is on track to reach that weight. In interviews with ESPN over the past two weeks, Rahman and his father expressed confidence that gaining weight would not be difficult.
The MVP statement said that Rahman provided a signed nutritionist statement that his weight is progressing in accordance with NYSAC rules. It includes weekly weight checks.
Over the past 48 hours, it has become clear that these assurances were not made in good faith. This is the MVP statement.
It is worth noting that Rahman, who throughout his career played heavyweight, had to drive up to 90.7 kilograms. The fight could take place on August 6 in New York.
“First Tommy was slow, now Hasim Rahman collapsed,” Paul tweeted. “These boxers are the hardest to work with because they lack the professionalism and confidence to fight me.”
In his last fight, Paul defeated former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (19-7). Paul sent Woodley a deep knockout in the sixth round.
Rahman lost less than one pound since signing a contract to fight in early July:
During the NYSAC weight check on Friday, Rahman lost less than one pound since signing a contract to fight in early July. This is confirmed by the MVP in a statement. The commission, according to MVP, said it would not sanction a bout under 205 pounds. Then, Paul was willing to accept. According to MVP, Rahman’s team was sent a new contract with a weight change and severe penalties if Rahman didn’t hit the weight limit.
“After receiving this new contract on Saturday morning, Rahman’s camp indicated for the first time that he planned to weigh in at 215 pounds at the official weigh-in. Moreover, he would not agree to the 205-pound weigh-in, and informed Most Valuable Promotions that they were pulling out of the fight unless the fight was agreed upon at weighing 215 pounds,” the statement said. A request for comment to the NYSAC on Saturday night was not returned immediately.
