MESSI WROTE IN POST
A few hours after posting, the footballer received more than 65 million likes. Messi wrote in Spanish: Roughly translated, “I’ve dreamed of it so many times. I wanted it so badly that it hasn’t crashed yet. I can’t believe it… to my family, everyone.” Thank you to everyone who supports me and believes in us, once again the Argentines can achieve what we set out to do if we fight together The merit belongs to this group that goes beyond individuality, it is the strength of everyone fighting for the same dream that was also the dream of all Argentines … we have achieving it !!!”
Argentina won the World Cup for the first time in 36 years by beating France on penalties in Sunday’s final in Qatar.
Messi’s Instagram post scored over millions more likes than the previous record-breaking post – held by a simple picture of an egg.
WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY AN EGG?
Yes, an egg previously held the title of most popular. People were encouraged to interact with the image in the goal of unseating the current record holder, Kylie Jenner, when it initially surfaced, giving the impression that it was some sort of protest vote against fame. The famous makeup artist previously held the record with her image from 2018 announcing the birth of her daughter Stormi, which has already racked up 18 million likes.
Messi also reached this milestone, but Jenner was the first female to do it on the social media platform with 300 million followers.
HOWEVER, THE EGG IS STILL LEFT UNACCOUNT FOR.
Many rumours circulated over the owner of the @world record egg Instagram account. Also how it was able to fast get so many likes. Some suspected it was a marketing gimmick from a big business that had purchased followers. But British advertising executive Chris Godfrey later stated he and two colleagues had designed it with the express intention of gaining the most likes.
However, the eggs surpassing Jenner’s record (over 57 million). But were eventually overtaking by rival Lionel Messi, who holds multiple world records of his own. After the World Cup final, Guinness World Records set a record for Messi overtaking Germany’s Lothar Matthaus for the most games played in the World Cup at 26 and 4.
