The Weekend Away

Fans of Gone Girls, Gone Girl, and disastrous vacations will enjoy this book. Even if it’s clumsy, a Leighton Meester car is never a terrible thing.

This film, which stars Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester as Beth, a young mother who is persuaded to go on a girls’ trip to Croatia (like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, to name just two), is the latest addition to the ever-growing catalog of films about women who mysteriously go lost (like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, to name just two). One of the ladies goes missing after a night of partying, forcing Beth to question it all as she tries to figure out what happened to her buddy.

 

Shrek 2 

Ogres, donkeys, magic, and “I Need a Hero” enthusiasts will enjoy this book. It’s the sequel to The Godfather: Part II for youngsters.

Shrek 2 was nominated for the Palme d’Or in Cannes, did you know? Yes, it did, since Shrek 2 continues the long trend of sequels that are superior to the original. Fiona (Cameron Diaz) sends Shrek (Mike Myers) home to see her parents in this film, but they disapprove when they realize she married an ogre. The film then moves on to dealing with magical curses, transforming potions, and a particularly evil Fairy Godmother. It’s all downhill from here for the Shrek franchise, but this one is so amazing that it doesn’t matter.

Shrek

For fans of Smash Mouth’s song “All Star.” Memes want you to believe it’s the greatest film ever made. It is, after all, Shrek. I’m not going to tell you what it is since you already know. Mike Myers voices a green ogre who appears to be mean and yet is actually friendly. It contains many adult jokes, but children enjoy it. In 2020, it was inducted into the National Movie Registry at the Library of Congress, winning the first Best Animated Film Oscar. It’s important “culturally, historically, or aesthetically.”

 

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming

Fans of Madea and Beyoncé will enjoy this. It’s complete nonsense, but you have to admire Perry’s dedication.

The MCU currently has 12 installments as of this film. Oh, no, I didn’t mean the Marvel Cinematic Universe; I was referring to Tyler Perry’s main character, Madea. Madea gathers her relatives to celebrate her great-college grandson’s graduation in Homecoming, but secrets emerge that threaten to derail the celebration. Perry said he’d retire Madea in 2019 after A Madea Friends Wedding, and we’ve seen how well that stuck, so I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of her.

 

Shooter

Fans of Marine snipers and Mark Wahlberg will enjoy this film. It completes the task with a boom.

Mark Wahlberg plays elite sniper Bob Lee Swagger, who was wrongfully accused of assassination and goes just on run to find the perpetrators and redeem his name. Is he about to unearth a massive conspiracy that reaches all the way up to the top? You’re aware of it!

Coach Carter

Fans of inspirational sports dramas and Samuel L. Jackson in leading roles will enjoy this film. It’s formulaic, but it’s effective.

Samuel L. Jackson plays a basketball coach at a low-income high school who requires his athletically brilliant but at-risk players to sign contracts stating that they must maintain good grades or be kicked off the team. It’s a heartwarming tale of harsh love based on a genuine story.

 

Just Like Heaven

Fans of Mark Ruffalo, Reese Witherspoon, and connecting with spirits will enjoy this film. In a 2005 manner, it’s ridiculous and charming.

Don’t you wish Mark Ruffalo will return to his rom-com roots? This is number thirteen. Going on 30, although the narrative is a little weirder: Ruffalo plays a widower who moves into a new apartment and discovers that it is haunted by the soul of the previous occupant (Reese Witherspoon). That position is already complex, but then he falls in love with her. Oh no!

 

The Green Mile

Fans of The Shawshank Redemption will be in tears. Yes

This Stephen King adaption is a supernatural, tear-jerking prison thriller starring Tom Hanks as a death row jail officer and John Coffey, a Christlike prisoner (the late Michael Clarke Duncan). It was written and directed by Frank Darabont, who was also nominated for An Oscar in 1999 for The Shawshank Redemption. Remember that it’s nearly three hours long, so take it slowly.

 

21 Bridges

Fans of Chadwick Boseman and New York City thrillers will enjoy this film. It ought to be a lot better than it is.

In order to arrest a pair of cop murders, the late Chadwick Boseman portrays an NYPD detective who closes down every bridge & tunnel in or out of Manhattan.
