Consider the sack he took on the opening drive, the sack he took before fumbling the ball, the number of near interceptions, and the multiple times he puts his receivers in danger by throwing the ball into dangerous territory.

Heinicke puts in a ton of effort on the field, maintains his composure even under pressure, and earns the respect of his teammates. The fact that his level of play changes from play to play and drive to drive, though, can only carry a team so far. We regret to inform you that Carson Wentz was not a significant improvement, or else the transition would have been made earlier.

This team’s offensive potential is severely constrained because of Heinicke. And regardless of whether or not Washington advances to the postseason, he will continue to do so. The Burgundy and Gold will be shopping for quarterbacks once again in the next season.
