Red Hood outlaws: Red Hood, Artemis, and Bizarro will star in the new original series, which will put a humorous and inventive perspective on the well-known characters. Red Hood: Outlaws follows the protagonists as they strive to stand in for the Justice League, defending the planet from some of DC’s most horrific villains and developing their teamwork skills.
Patrick R. Young and Nico Bascuán discussed their new Webtoon x DC series and what viewers may anticipate before its premiere on August 14th in an exclusive conversation with CBR. They talked about how Red Hood: Outlaws came to be and how the team leverage Red Hood’s history to develop a brand-new, original plot that took place outside of DC’s canon. Additionally, Red Hood: Outlaws-related Webtoon provides exclusive, never-before-seen photographs.
Patrick Robert Young I read all my cousin’s old comic books as a child and watched the animated Batman and X-Men series. Probably a Spawn-related comic was my first. This universe has always been my favourite, and I use my action figures to create my own adventures. This was something I wished and imagined happening, but I didn’t anticipate it happening so quickly. I’m grateful and thrilling.
Nico Bascuán: Batman and the X-Men were constantly inn. Moreover, I adore the Ninja Turtles.
When did you begin developing Red Hood Outlaws and launching the series?
Young: I joined Webtoon’s cooperation with DC pretty early. I’ve been dealing with the series for about two years, and I’m eager for people to watch it when it’s eventually out. While witnessing Nico’s paintings arrive, I have received excellent treatment. The entire staff did an outstanding job, and this man is a dream maker.
Bascuán: At the end of July the previous year, I plunged in. The idea had already been proposed by Patrick. He is the creator of the series. Our crew is incredibly talented. That’s our trade secret: we collaborate with buddies.
Along with series like Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, Vixen: NYC, and Zatanna & The Ripper, Red Hood: Outlaws is one of many from Webtoon and DC’s collaborative efforts. What do you think about this collaboration and the rise of a new webcomics readership that reads comics online?
Young: I agree, it’s fantastic. I believe that access for the consumer should be the main focus of all art. As comics and art become more accessible, this happens. Recent years have been difficult for print. Not everyone lives close to a comic book shop or can afford to buy every series they wish to read. I believe it’s fantastic that students can find what they want on Webtoon. We all depend on our phones constantly, thus I find the design style to be really clever and user-friendly. Learning that was enjoyable. Thematically, exploring the characters and seeing them at their most basic levels is the cleverest thing Webtoon and DC are accomplishing. People are eager for that, which Batman: Wayne Family Adventures has done a great job of capturing. We want to carry on like that.
Bascuán: I was asked to create some samples for a brand-new Webtoon and DC collaboration called Red Hood: Outlaws, which is set to premiere soon. I read a lot of Webtoons to familiarise myself with it after I asked what a Webtoon was because I knew nothing about it. In reality, while I was a college student in 2010, I became interested in digital webcomics. I’m a visual designer, and the topic of my thesis was comic books in the future. After that, I worked for other businesses that produced video games and mobile apps. The epidemic caused things to change, and I started working alone. Furthermore, I remember having similar thought years earlier when I saw Webtoon in the email and immediately clicked “Sign me in!”
How will the story begin? Can you give readers a sneak peek at the season one setting, core storylines, and other DC characters they can look forward to seeing?
Young: We begin by telling people about the Outlaws. We are quite conscious of the fact that not everyone is familiar with this team. However, we do a good job of exposing Red Hood, Artemis, and Bizarro to the younger generation. They certainly have their followers. Things don’t go well while they are on a mission. They are forcing to assume the role of the Justice League for a while. Moreover, Since Nico and I are both great DC Comics fans, we compile a massive list of characters we would like to include if this was the only DC Comic we ever got to write. We use them. Everybody will be pleasantly pleasing by the variety of people who show up, and the sandbox is filling with all of our toys. I will admit that Scooby-Doo is the only character I was unable to use, so he may not appear.
The character design of Red Hood is already generating a lot of fan discussion, with some even mentioning how handsome he is. Can you describe your creative process and the decision-making that went into designing the Red Hood in your particular manner?
Bascuán: I initially jotted down all the Webtoon and comic book guidelines. For this, I’ve twisted everything and created a new language of my own. The artwork from the first Red Hood appearance was using. Fans already adore how fashionable, new, and fresh we made him while using the same resources that are already available. To be completely honest, the trick is that I draw him to resemble my brother since in reality, he resembles the Red Hood exactly.
Therefore, we give him a new life by giving him this new personality and character. We carefully plan every detail of these figures’ movements. We provide them with life and love. We’re attempting to photograph him in eye-catching positions. The most may be communicating at one glance. We approached it differently with Patrick, and it’s a very enjoyable process. He provided me with the ideal elements, and we are eager to demonstrate them to everyone.
Moreover, We had a lot of fun creating the characters, says Young. I believe that of the three characters I can recall, Bizarro received the most references. I state that I wish for him to resemble “Channing Tatum himbo.” I believe it is universally acknowledge that Nico madeking everyone incredibly hot.
How will the new series balance Red Hood outlaws tradition while still breaking new ground, and how far will the storyline diverge from earlier Red Hood outlaws comics?
Young: Working in the Webtoon-verse has been entertaining to some extent. Since we frequently break continuity, I am free to pick and choose elements that we enjoy and that support the tale we want to convey. We’re portraying the tale of Red Hood, Artemis, and Bizarro coming to terms with their individual identities in a world where they’re frequently comparing to these opposing personalities. Furthermore, More youthful and impressionable than we are use to seeing them are Artemis, Bizarro, and even Jason. We enjoyed selecting our favourite continuities from each other. I don’t believe that Artemis was Wonder Woman at any point in the previous Outlaws series, but perhaps she is in ours now.
What are you most looking forward to when Red Hood: Outlaws debuts on the Webtoon platform on August 14th, and what would you like to say to readers before its release?
It’s an action comedy, according to Bascuán. It’s very entertaining and not [too] grim. The story is brand-new and original. That allows us to innovate. This series was creating for us as well, and we are enthusiastic. It’s important to me that my style be unique.
Young: We can’t wait to tell everyone about this. In order to move people emotionally after ten episodes, we want to get it out there and get them exciting. I want as many people to identify with these characters as possible so that when we injure them, they will feel it. I am certain that I will use Webtoon coins.
On August 14, Red Hood: Outlaws will be a webtoon available.
