The Squid Game was an original Korean Netflix series. It is a South Korean television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and produced by Siren Pictures and Stars Viva. Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that he came up with the storyline back in 2009. However, he was unable to create the show as no company was funding such a gruesome show. Later on, Netflix liked the idea and provided funding for the show starting from 2019. It was released on Netflix in September 2021 and quickly gained international popularity. Now the question is if there is any Squid game season 2.

In the latter part of 2021, it was practically impossible to ignore the absolute phenomenon that was Netflix’s Korean series, Squid Game. It’s been over two years since Gi-hun’s fate was revealed in the season one finale, leaving fans wondering just how much longer they’ll have to wait for more. In February 2023, it was announced that Squid Game season 2 is finally in the works and the filming will last for about 10 months minimum. It was revealed that the squid games season 2 will be bigger in scale as quoted by Lee Jung-jae.

Netflix has officially confirmed the launch year for Squid Game season two in a grand announcement to shareholders. In the announcement, Netflix highlighted their ambitious slate for 2024, despite delays caused by strikes last year. Among the lineup are returning favorites like The Diplomat Season 2, Bridgerton Season 3, Squid Game Season 2, and Empress Season 2, alongside unscripted series like Tour de France: Unchained S2, Love is Blind S6, F1: Drive to Survive S6, and Full Swing S2. Additionally, brand new shows such as 3 Body Problem, Griselda, The Gentlemen, Eric, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Cien Años de Soledad, based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez, are set to captivate audiences.

As you can see that Squid Game season 2 is also included in the list. Signaling its official release this year! Now, all that remains is awaiting the specific release date. However, with such a diverse lineup, viewers will have plenty to enjoy in the interim. Fans can likely anticipate the return of their favorite blood-thirsty K-drama in the latter half of 2024. A summer release seems unlikely due to post-production requirements, so winter might be more plausible.

WHAT’S THE SQUID GAME SEASON 2’S CAST GOING TO LOOK LIKE?

Seeing that more than half of Squid game’s cast was killed in the show. This begs the question what will the next cast look like? Among the 456 competitors from the first season, only one survived.

However, viewers can expect the return of Seong Gi-hun. He’s the one despite surviving the game, finds himself lured back after witnessing another person recruited for the high-stakes life-or-death competition. Additionally, Wi Ha-jun will reprise his role as police detective Jun-ho.

Several new players have been announced, including Park Gyu-young from It’s Okay Not to Be Okay, singer Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David from Itaewon Class, Lee Jin-uk from Sweet Home, rapper Choi Seung-hyun (also known as TOP), Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an from DP. It’s clear that the cast will comprise of actors both male and female. The show previously faced a little backlash for having a male majority in the cast. This will now be sorted by the almost equal ratio of the gender in the show.

SQUID GAME SEASON 2’S EXPECTED PLOT TO BE

As you all know, the only person to survive the dangerous games where he had to compete to the death. He survived the games and won the money that was on the line.  Yet, the sinister contest persists even after the death of its creator, revealing a new wave of recruits.

It was shown at the end of the first season that Gi Hun vowed to take revenge on the people who could make such a cruel game.

Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Gi-hun, offered insights into the upcoming season: “I have no idea what will happen or the scale of it, but the only thing [director Hwang] did tell me was that Seong Gi-hun is going to be in the show again, and he’s going to be playing in the arena again. “It’s probably safe to assume that, as we all saw at the end of season one, the main plot of season two will be revenge.”

But it’s hard to see how Gi-hun could beat the game’s creators, even with his new money, without getting his hands dirty. In the first season, he avoided feeling guilty about killing because he didn’t directly take a life. But it’s unlikely he’ll be so lucky this time. This would add new emotions to his story. Another problem Gi-hun would face Squid Game season 2 is sneaking around unnoticed with his bright red hair. He dyed it in the final episode for some reason, making it harder for him to hide.

Conclusion:

It is probably a sign of his revenge or his rage towards the creator of the games. No trailer or further details have been shared with the public. As for now, this is all that you can expect to get. I’ve also heard that the making of Squid Games season 2 is followed with the filming of season 3 side by side. This may be that season 3 is launched after a while when Squid Game season 2 finishes.
