According to The Washington Post on Saturday, right-hander Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals has “severe nerve damage,” raising questions about whether he will ever throw again.

Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals reportedly suffers “severe nerve damage.”

According to the article, Strasburg, 34, was suspend over a month ago. Also is no longer able to participate in any therapy. Since last June, when he last pitch in a game, he has been recovering from surgery to repair thoracic outlet syndrome. He’s had nerve problems before.

He complained neck and shoulder nerve irritation in February following an offseason pitching practice as Nationals Park in Washington.

The Nationals don’t have any plans for him to return from the 60-day disable list. This is despite the fact he is eligible to do so after missing spring training and being placing on it before Opening Day.

Despite the pain, tingling, and numbness, he kept going to try to keep in shape by pounding out his lower body. Strasburg has only tossed 3113 innings in the last three years after receiving World Series MVP honours in 2019. While Washington defeated the Astros from Houston in the Fall Classic.

He made one start last year. Also pitched 42 1/3 innings in a defeat to the Miami Marlins on June 9. He allowed 7 earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. The plan, according to the Postal Services, is for Strasburg to take some time off and monitor his nerve issues.

As in the investigation, the Nationals are responsible for the three remaining seasons of his contract, thus the organization has nothing to risk by executing the waiting game.

His age & injury experience would have made insuring his contract prohibitively expensive, assuming the Nationals could have found a business prepared to provide disability protection, according to the Post.

Most of the time, Strasburg has been absent from the Nationals. According to the Post, the pitcher hasn’t spending sufficient time in the changing rooms prior to home games. This hasn’t going to their inaugural game, doesn’t travel with the team. Also is no longer in manager Dave Martinez’s injury reports. The Nationals have been the home of Strasburg’s 13-year big league career. He is a three-time All-Star. He was taking first overall over San Diego State in the 2009 draught.
