Everyday Health: 9 signs if you are unhealthy and should not ignore

1. Loss of weight quickly

According to Dr. Gupta, “A weight loss of more than 10% of body weight over a 6-month period is usually defined as a weight loss of concern. This should result in a serious investigation to evaluate the cause of the weight loss as this could be a symptom of diabetes, a tumor, or a chronic ongoing infection.” In other words, if you lose more than 10% of your body weight over the course of six months, you should be concerned about your weight loss.

2. Mood swings

Are you becoming more irritable as a result of your frequent mood shifts? However, you should not minimize the significance of mood swings because they can indicate more serious problems with one’s mental health, such as bipolar disease, dysthymia, or disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD).

3. You are unhealthy when you have constant headache

Even while migraines and headaches that last for days on end are extremely prevalent, they are rarely life-threatening. But be alert. “Any headache that is of short duration, worse at night or early morning, persistent and not responding to oral pain killers. This headache is associated with fever, visual symptoms, and any weakness in hand and leg can be a sign of severe disorder like tumor or meningitis,” says Dr. Gupta.

4. Fatigue

A healthy diet and plenty of rest are also effective treatments for fatigue. However, if you are unhealthy,  tiredness or fatigue persists despite these measures, a condition called chronic fatigue syndrome may be to blame (CFS). Make sure to consult a physician as soon as possible and schedule an appointment with them.

5. A chronic hacking cough

According to Dr. Gupta, “a persistent cough that is accompanied by weight loss, low-grade fever, and exhaustion can be an indication of a serious disorder. In order to analyze the same, it is important to get a chest X-ray.” It could be an indication of a persistent illness such as tuberculosis, or it could point to the presence of malignancies.

6. Chest pain

An immediate trip to the doctor is warranted if you have a sudden and severe feeling of pressure. Other indications are squeezing, tightness, or crushing under your breastbone. It is consequently followed by pain radiating to your jaw, left arm, or back, and finally, difficulty breathing and a slow heart rate. Women, this is not typical and may possibly be a warning sign of a heart attack!

7. Mild or persistent fever

It is always an indication of a chronic infection or inflammatory illness to have a fever that stays at 99 or 100 degrees for an extended period of time. According to Dr. Gupta, “If it occurs in conjunction with weight loss or joint pains, and/or abdominal discomfort, it could be an indication of infection or inflammation of that organ” (If it occurs in conjunction with weight loss, joint pains, and/or abdominal pain).

8. A sluggish recovery

The process of cell regeneration is slowed down due to diabetes, which in turn slows down the whole healing process.

9. Joint pains are also a sign that you are unhealthy

Joint pains that don’t go away. It is especially when accompanied by joint swelling, weight loss, or rashes. They are possible early warning signs of an inflammatory condition.

These are typical symptoms that we may pay little attention to in our day-to-day lives. However, they are indicators that should not be ignored since they may lead to the identification of potentially serious illnesses. Keep in mind that the first step toward a cure is prevention, and the second step is early detection.
