In his first significant TV interview following punching Chris Rock onstage in March, Will Smith briefly discussed his notorious Oscar night.

Will Smith reveals to Trevor Noah, through tears, the “anger” that motivated his Oscar smack.

On Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show, Smith revealed how Rock’s joke about his wife’s hair caused him to “just lose it.” Similarly, He remarked, before adding that his emotions didn’t explain his actions, “That was a wrath that had been repressed for a tremendously long period.”

“You really never know what a person is going through, I guess that’s what I’d say. That evening, I was experiencing something. It’s similar to the expression, “Hurt people hurt people,” you know?”

Smith claimed that coming to terms with his “being humanness” had been his hardest obstacle over the previous eight months.

He stated, “I had to come to terms with the fact that I’m an imperfect human and that I currently have a chance to go out into the world and make a contribution in a way that satisfies my heart and perhaps helps others.

During the 20-minute chat, Noah mumbled nearly as frequently as Smith did, delivering apologies and expressions of love while a sobered-up Smith nodded in agreement.

You belong to a select group of people who have spent too much time in the public eye than not, Noah said. Moreover,  “When I declare that I do not want this to determine you, I believe I represent a significant number of people. It shouldn’t, in my opinion, define you. Nobody, in my opinion, deserves to have their entire life characterized by a single screw-up.”

Smith appeared on the program to promote the recent historical drama Emancipation, in which he plays a runaway slave.

Even though the Smith slap continues to dominate the Hollywood conversation, the movie’s director, Antoine Fuqua, has backed Apple’s choice to show Emancipation this December on numerous occasions. Furthermore, This week, during an appearance on a morning show program, Smith said he would comprehend if viewers decided not to see the movie as a form of protest against his actions.

“I would totally respect that and give them the room to not be ready,” Smith says Good Day DC journalist Kevin McCarthy.”

“My team is my biggest worry. My sincere goal is that my activities don’t harm my team, as the members of this team have produced some of their best work during their whole lives. That’s what I’m aiming towards right now.”

On The Morning Show, he expressed a similar concern, stating he didn’t desire his behavior to “taint” the response to the movie.

Smith elaborated on how he let people down by telling a tale about his 9-year-old nephew’s reaction to watching the slap on television.

“In order of seeing his Uncle Will, he had remained up late. He’s on my lap & holding the Oscar while we sit in my kitchen. And he just asks, “Why did you strike that man, Uncle Will?”” Smith spoke after pausing to blot his eyes.

What makes you think you can Oprah me? He made fun of Noah. It was a disaster, you see. I do not wish to delve too far because that could lead to more misunderstandings.

Smith’s upbeat attitude contributed to some of his fan base’s appeal. Moreover, He admitted to creating that image last year on NPR’s Fresh Air to mask his childhood trauma, which included witnessing his father abuse his mom when he was just 9 years old.
