Birth and family

Before Zubaidah Apa’s death, an interview with her went viral in which she talked about her personal life, career, marriage.  He said that at first I did not know that I would be able to do any work.

Zubaydah Tariq said that her husband worked in a multinational company and whenever there were feasts, whether it was two hundred or three hundred people, she would prepare all the food herself, serving alone.  Used to do and Pakistanis and foreigners were also included in the dawat.

Zubaidah Appa said that when it was time for her husband’s retirement, her office friends and other staff members attended as guests.  The chairman of the office was also present and when he saw my hard work, he offered me a job in a famous cooking oil company.  Zubaidah Apa said that I don’t know English, so I didn’t want to work.  Then the company owners said that English is not necessary, you should work in Urdu.  And they asked me to write recipes.

Zubaydah Tariq said that I got a job in this company after 50 years and I worked there for 8 years.  What he had to say was that I worked in peacekeeping companies and handled almost every channel and was well received everywhere.  Zubaidah Apa had said that I will have more than six thousand cooking shows.

Zubaidah Apa further mentioned her journey to fame and said that I did not have much education and no special training, I learned to cook after marriage.  My mother did all the work of sweeping the house, but did not teach me how to cook. After marriage, I suddenly went to Lahore, so I went to the kitchen and cooked karhi. There were no telephones at that time, and I do not remember that Karhi is made from curd.  And I made besan, now it got thick and I had to throw it away, but later I started cooking it and started to like it, so I started to feel confident that I have some taste in my hand.  It has to be cooked.

The taste of clothes and the love of wearing jewelry was characteristic of Zubeida Apa’s personality. She had every variety of bangles. In a morning show, she said that she has around five thousand sets of bangles that she wears with each of her sarees.  Wear by matching.

Zubaidah Apa will always be remembered in every household as an expert chef, a smart lady and a homemaker.

Zubaydah Tariq died four years ago in Karachi due to cardiac arrest.
